Meet the Greats
Scott Houston
Elite Vaulter
Hi my name is Scott Houston and I am known for winning the 2018 US Indoor Championship. My personal best is 5.83 meter 19’1.5”. I have spent almost 20 years both perfecting my craft of vaulting and helping coach others to achieve their goals as well. I’ve Coach the NCAA D1 Runner Up and coached 8 years at the D1 level. I’m most proud of my ability to find and create changes in my own competing, and mostly my journey to support and help others grow to their highest levels possible. Helping, sharing, and impacting others has always been an aspect of my life that has given back more than I have given to it.

I've been coaching for five years since I retired in 2016. I love coaching and being able to share the knowledge I have learned throughout my career. My two main coaches were Dan Pfaff who has coached 49 Olympians. His specialty is sprinting, I learned one of the most important parts of the vault is the run. Learning the correct running mechanics is the only way to vault high. I was very fortunate to be able to train with Dan from 2005-2010. From 2010-2016, I moved to Jonesboro AR where I trained with Earl Bell. Earl was a three time Olympian and former world record holder. Earl has coached more Olympic pole vaulters than any other coach in the U.S. I am beyond thankful for both coaches who shaped me into the pole vaulter and coach that I am today. I am very excited for the opportunity to come to the Chula vista Elite Training Center and coach some amazing young pole-vaulters!
